•The PISSAM network has started in 1975 in Inner West Sydney and beyond. In 2004 it officially begin to flourish.
•In its 30 year history the PISSAM has:
created opportunities for grassroots service providers, specialists, University students, secondly students, parents, volunteers to link to its local multicultural communities the whole community, 3 levels of government, others to participate, built on new ideas from all levels of the communities united & encouraged community ownership of projects
increased skills development
enhanced opportunities for disadvantaged groups
increased community resources & infrastructure
established strong community networks creating peaceful harmonious environment.
Special Projects
PISSAM wishes to highlight a Special Projects this year in Innerwest Short Stay Accommodation Project.
The project which is targeted to Pacific Islanders
persons & their friends and will strive to create employment
opportunities in the Pacific Islanders Community will
provide accommodation for families and
friends who come to the area to visit
their families and there is no place to stay OR for those who are in need of moving because of intense issues at home and cannot cope. PISSAM IS hopintg to secure a place from Housing NSW & FaHCSIA to develop and implement this
project. The vision statement for this Project is:
“Through increased visitations enhance
family relationships and assist rehabilitation
by providing safe, affordable, well managed
short-stay accommodation”
Planning is well underway for this project
through identification and current negotiations
on a suitable property, consultations with the
community and other stakeholders and
development of a draft operational plan.
CTHA is working closely with the Community
Working Party in across NSW, the
Manager of the PISSAM Centre and other
key stakeholders to develop protocols, employ
staff and make the project a reality. It is hoped
the project will be operational in early 2010.
In addition to the FaCSIA funding,
1. PISSAM has entered into a STEP Contract
with the Department of Education,
Employment and Workplace Relations to
assist with the employment of staff for the
project
2. A donation received from PISSAM members in children who
will be utilising the accommodation facility.
Development of PISSAM Webpage
A webpage is currently under construction and
will be launched early next year increasing the
profile of the organisation..
