it's very difficult to the community to see how some consultations could be used for any useful purpose whatever.if the Pacific Islanders grassroots specialists, parents, schools, service providers and government representatives get involve in community consultants.
consultation suppose to bring the communities opinions and to voice their needs to be heard, so the government to find the solution to fix these issues. Sure any community would like consultations to be simple as that.
Kalo strongly supports the reintroduction of the Commonwealth Racial Discrimination Act but says it will not fix all the problems outlined in any reports that did not get the community to participate. She says that any consultations should be well informed and all topics should be upfront and people must understand the real meaning of any consultation. What is the purpose of the workshop/consultation, why hold the workshop/consultation, who will benefit the consultation and what will be the outcome.
What the Government needs to do is in effect to have a consultation with service providers and grassroots specialists who understand the Pacific islanders and especially those who have the specialists back home and in Australia and it is up to date to work with the government on legislation that will affect Pacific Islanders and start afresh, she said.
Let us work on such positives that have emerged from spending on
education, health and so on, but above all to really sit down and consult with
the communities and involve them as well in the decision making process and
what will be best and will work for the community and how the government will support the purpose. We have to make sure that every community is represented and bring people's voices but preferably the community themselves.
"And if they were to do that, Kalo thinks they'd get a much better response from these people and vice versa. She also thinks overall the activity would be much more effective and will bring more reality.
e.g. Domestic Violence, BULLIES AT SCHOOL!!: We're currently PISSAM doing further analysis in the hope to identify risk factors for domestic VIOLENCE, she said. "Looking at those factors that might be identifiable by the police prior to the WORSE OF domestic homicide that might help us to prevent domestic VIOLENCE, SCHOOL BULLIES, homicide in the future. Really it is best for the police to work with specialists in their particular areas from grassroots individuals who knows the cultures AND the community since from birth almost.
